"I have been locked up as well, so what?" Buhari fires back at people accusing him of locking them up when he ruled

President Buhari says those who have repeatedly accused him of locking them up while he was Head of State should remember that he was also locked up after he was removed as Head of State in 1985. Speaking to the Nigerian community yesterday in South Africa, Buhari said;

"This is my first time of attending these types of meetings (AU) and they go on and on until about 1 in the morning. And then you are supposed to start in the morning again. Everybody is repeating what the other speaker has said instead of to keep their mouth shut. Anyways, it is a great experience. I have listened to the address paraphrased by the counsel-general, I’m pleased that wherever Nigerians are whether in South Africa or Saudi Arabia or Europe or Alaska for that matter, you’ll make an impact both positive and negative.

While speaking to journalists in Abuja, the lawmakers said, “I think people are speaking out of ignorance. Even before now, I was one of those who believed the same thing. The records will be made public. We will ensure that the National Assembly does that, Nigerians need to know. The salaries we earn are not in any way close to what people speculate. People in the oil and gas sectors, banking and even lecturers earn more than us and the President.

I Will Have To Vet My Ministers Before Appointing Them – Pres.Buhari

Speaking to newsmen during the AU Summit in South Africa yesterday, president Buhari said he doesn't know why people are anxious about ministers, saying he's yet to appoint them because his predecessor’s transition committee submitted its report on the previous administration to him late.

“I don’t know why people are so anxious about ministers. But eventually we will have (them). But the main reason is that I have an interim committee which I agreed with the former President Jonathan that the ministers of the outgoing government should hand over their notes or their documents to this interim committee so that a position can be prepared for the new government to start from with clear records from ministers.

According to Forbes: Body language can mean a lot but...

The biggest misconception perpetrated by many so-called experts is that specific gestures – of your hands, say – have specific meanings.  Rather, gestures are ambiguous.  They can mean many things.

If I cross my arms, I may be signaling my defensiveness, but I may also be cold, or simply tired and propping myself up with my arms – or just getting comfortable.  And I could be signaling all those things at once.  It’s possible to be simultaneously cold, tired, defensive, and desirous of comfort.

OPINION: President Buhari Indeed Belongs To Somebody

“I belong to everybody. And I belong to nobody”- President Muhammed Buhari.

The above quotation is one the quotable quotes from the inaugural speech of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Eagle Square, Abuja during his swearing in. Since the quotation went viral, there have been several misconceptions or misinterpretation of the quotation. Precisely, many social commentators are still trying to decode its true meaning.

If viewed from the context of trying to establish his independence in taking vital decisions in the proper administration of the country and not just trying to play politics with the destiny of the nation, Buhari may well be right. It will be recalled that his first shot at the seat of power came through the barrels of guns as a military dictator in 1984. He is not entirely new to the seat of government. But this is his first as a democratically elected President and Commander -in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces. And that is why he is trying to make populist statements like the one credited to him above.
