The PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu and Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (bot), Chief Tony Anenih, resigned their positions on Wednesday.
Speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Secondus said there is no reason for any of the remaining NWC members to resign as they all have their tenures still running.
He also explained that Mu’azu was not forced to resign from his position.
The Director of Media And Publicity for the Goodluck-Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, had expressed hope that more members of the NWC will resign.
Giving his opinion after the Chairman of the PDP, Mr Adamu Mu’azu, resigned on Wednesday, Mr Fani-Kayode said the leader’s resignation was the beginning of a process.
“No Longer Popular”
He said: “Rather than create more fractures or division, it actually enhances unity and gives hope to those that are seeking change at the leadership of the party.
“I sincerely hope that one or two other members of the NWC will follow queue and also leave honourably before they are pushed out.
“When this sort of thing happens what you are in fact doing is that you are enhancing the party’s fortunes.
“When this sort of thing happens what you are in fact doing is that you are enhancing the party’s fortunes.
“When leaders that are no longer popular and no longer have the confidence of the people and party members decide to resign, it give room for fresh new leadership.
“This is a process that has just begun and I sincerely hope that it goes all the way,” Mr Fani-Kayode said.
He, however, pointed out that “not all the NWC members are bad”.
According to him, “there are few like Uche Secondus, who now leads the party, and others that are really good and have done their best”.
“Frankly speaking, there are a number of them that are still there and simply have to go. We will not keep quiet until the others have gone as well,” Mr Fani Kayode said.
The former National Chairman of the PDP had in his letter to the party’s leadership cited health reasons for his decision.
