Buhari Meets With US Delegates At Aso Rock Ahead Of Meeting With Obama

President Muhammadu Buhari metwith US Deputy Secretary of State, Antony Blinken and the US ambassador to Nigeria -James F. Entwistle ahead of White House visit to meet Pres. Obama on July 20. 

The US delegates met with the president and the vice president at the presidential villa.A statement from the White House says the visit will underscore the United States’ “longstanding friendship with Nigeria, our commitment to strengthening and expanding our partnership with Nigeria’s new government, and oursupport for the Nigerian people following their historic democratic elections and peaceful transfer of power”.

Nigeria’s president Muhammad Buhari takes his personal security seriously. After being sworn in, the president waited over a month before moving into his official Aso rock residence. The delay in relocation was attributed to suspicious security lapses, possible espionage and overall distrust of the department of state security, DSS headed by the service chief Ita Ekpeyong and NSA Sambo Dasuki.

Reliable reports have it that the DSS has been expelled from all sensitive positions in Aso rock.

It is understandable that where Buhari has a choice, he chose not to move into Aso rock because he did not trust the nation’s service chiefs and security departments. The people of Maiduguri have no such choice, nor do the people of Adamawa and Yobe. They cannot simply decide to not occupy homes under protection by these same risky chiefs. They cannot order an overhaul or select the departments to provide them security. They cannot simply handpick what agents and agencies to protect their displaced camps and rescue their abducted sons and daughters.

President Buhari is having a meeting with all the Service Chiefs in Aso Rock this afternoon. This will be the first official meeting he will be overseeing in the presidential villa.

President Buhari Moves To Aso Rock

Three weeks after his May 29 inauguration, President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday evening relocated to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He joined his wife, Aisha, who had moved in on Thursday.

Before he finally moved in, the President had in the afternoon of Sunday visited the Presidential Villa where he stayed for about 30 minutes.

Those who thought that he had finally relocated to the seat of power were however shocked when Buhari left the premises after spending a few minutes. He later returned finally in the evening.

President Buhari's wife relocates to Aso Rock ahead of husband

The wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has relocated to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, barely three weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was inaugurated.

Since they were inaugurated, Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo have been operating from outside the Presidential Villa.

This is despite the fact that both men have their official residences and offices inside the Villa.

They have both been operating from their private residences as well as the Defence House, official residence of the President-elect located at Maitama District, Abuja.

Reasons Why President and His Vice Has Not Moved Into Aso Rock - SSA on Media

Two days after President Buhari was sworn in a the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr president and His Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo are yet to move into the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock.

This was made know by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Shehu Garba.

According to Him, He said:

"As far as the President is concerned, the place (His official residence) is not ready yet. Workers are cleaning and refurbishing the place. Once the exercise is completed, the President will move in".

After He was asked to be specific on how soon will the President move in, He replied that, he believed it would not take time.

Rumor have it that, the Presidential Villa personnel in Abuja, are not sure of what will be their Job schedule this week, due to the fact that the president is yet to appoint some key positions in his cabinet, most especially the role of the chief of staff whose responsibility is to arrange the President's daily schedules.

Shehu said:

"As we are talking now, we do not know his (The President's) activities for tomorrow (Today). We cannot plan for his activities. We do not know which groups he will be meeting or how many people he will be meeting.

It is when we have an idea of those who he will be meeting that we can schedule them regarding allocation of the time and venue. These would have been easier for us if a chief of staff is in place".

He also said because they were not properly informed about itinerary of the inauguration gala night that was held inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa on Friday nearly flopped as people kept trooping in.

On a final Note, he also said:

"For now, we are waiting for the two big men (President and Vice President) to move into the villa so that we can do our jobs. For now, we are only securing the seat of power without the men of power."
