So-called forgery case against me is another wanton abuse of the judicial process- Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki, has described the allegations of forgery of senate standing order leveled against him and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu by the Federal government as another wanton abuse of the judicial process and making a mockery of the institution of justice.

In a statement released by his special adviser on media and publicity, Yusuf Olaniyonu yesterday June 22nd, Saraki said some people were trying to implicate him in keeping with their declared vow to ensure that even if their current efforts to nail him through the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) fails, they would find other ways to carry out their vendetta.

PDP says, Fielding Jonathan for presidential poll an error

 The Peoples Democratic Party has asked Nigerians to forgive the party for its inability to meet their yearnings in the past 16 years.

 The party also said that fielding former President Goodluck Jonathan as the PDP candidate for the 2015 Presidential election was an error. It added that the party was aware that Nigerians were angry with it because of some actions it took when it was in power.

 The PDP said it was ready to mend fences and this was why it was organising a national conference where all issues affecting the former ruling party would be discussed.

 The Chairman, National Planning Committee of the conference, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, said this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

 Dokpesi, a chieftain of the party from Edo State, was flanked at the briefing by members of the planning committee of the conference.

IG says Senate forgery allegation raises issue of criminality

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, defended police investigation into the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Orders 2015, in a preliminary objection opposing a suit filed by the Enugu East senator in the National Assembly,  which asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to restrain the police and the Attorney-General of the Federation from taking any further step on the allegation.

Nnaji filed the suit asking the court to stop the police investigation on the grounds that it

“is inspired by a devious petition by the Secretary of the Unity Forum Senators, solely aimed at unjustly incriminating the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.”

The office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, the second defendant to the suit, has also filed a similar notice of preliminary objection, asking the court to strike out the suit, which it said ought to have been instituted by Ekweremadu, if the police investigation was really meant to unjustly incriminate him.

Following a publication in a newspaper, alleging that 22 northern senators of the APC, who took part in the vote of confidence on the Senate President and other leaders of the Senate, were plotting to frustrate the present administration, the Senate has directed its Committee on Ethics and Privilege to investigate the allegations.

Impeaching Ekweremadu will worsen N’Assembly crisis, says Sani

Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna-Central senatorial district, said that the impeachment of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, will deepen   the crisis rocking the National Assembly and impede the operations of the executive arm of government.

Sani, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, said although he didn’t vote for Ekweremadu, the plan to remove him was not the solution to the crisis rocking the National Assembly.

The senator said this during an interview with Sahara TV on Monday.

Sani said,

“We have to tell ourselves the truth. We are in a difficult situation. The fact that we have a deputy senate president from the PDP is a better alternative to the election of a senate president from the PDP because we could have had that on June 9.

SENATORS of the Unity Forum, the group loyal to Senator Ahmad Lawan and the All Progressives Congress (APC), are said to have perfected a plot aimed at eventually ousting the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

The APC had been uncomfortable with Ekweremadu’s emergence on June 9 as Deputy Senate President and had blamed its members in the Senate for allegedly selling out to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

President Muhammadu Buhari, at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of his party two 

weeks ago, insisted that he could not work with “enemies,” apparently referring to Ekweremadu occupying the Senate number two seat.

Members of the Unity Forum were said to have been further empowered after a recent visit to Aso Rock, where it was gathered that the plot to eventually oust Ekweremadu was discussed.

Sources close to the APC in Abuja, on Sunday, said the senators had decided to lie low on their opposition to the Deputy Senate President and to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Police to investigate Deputy Senate President Ekweremadu over alleged forged Senate rules

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase,on  Sunday summoned the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, over alleged forgery of the Senate Rules on election of its principal officers,the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said.

The PDP said Ekweremadu is expected to appear before a team of investigators at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday (today).

It said the letter inviting the deputy senate president was dated July 1, 2015 and was signed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of criminal investigation at the FHQ.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said this at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday.

The PDP national publicity secretary further disclosed that the camps of Femi Gbajabiamila and Senator Ahmed Lawan promised PDP lawmakers in both the Red and Green Chambers, juicy committees.

APC insists on Deputy Senate President Ekweremadu's removal

APC says Deputy Senate president Ike Ekweremadu who is a member of PDP must be removed from office. Senator Ekweremadu who was also the deputy senate president in the last administration, was elected deputy senate president during the controversial senate leadership election on June 9th which produced Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

A member of the ruling party who spoke on condition of anonymity with Punch, said Ekweremadu serving as deputy senate president will adversely affect President Buhari's administration.

He also added that President Buhari has refused to see Senator Saraki and Hon Dogara since their emergence as Senate President and Speaker.

Punish Saraki, Dogara– Lagos APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has urged the national leadership of the party to punish the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, for anti-party activities.

Lagos APC, in a statement by its publicity secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said it was saddening that Saraki could ‘jump into bed’ with the Peoples Democratic Party in his desperation for power.

Igbokwe described the re-election of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President as an embarrassment to the APC.
