Providence seems to be smiling on bulky and handsome Nigerian Film maker, Kunle Afolayan as he has been signed on by world-class airliner, Air-france.

This development would definitely be a welcome one for the Film maker, who seemed to have hit rough patches after Nigerian movie Pirates feasted on his multi-million dollar blockbuster movie, 'October 1', making him incur huge losses from the production of the movie.

Kunle Afolayan is one of the most celebrated film makers in Africa due to his high quality productions and moving plots.

He took to his Instagram account to share the photo of the unveiling. I guess the movie director has every reasons to thank God. Why? Pirates can't get a hold of this from him.

Congratulation to the Nigerian Film Legend.

I was once a danfo driver, says Fayose

post-feature-image

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has appealed to members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria against allowing themselves to be used by kidnappers to perpetrate evil.
Speaking on Thursday during the swearing-in of the new State Executive of the union in Ado Ekiti, the governor, who said he was once a ‘danfo driver’ appealed to the drivers to be orderly and not to be desperate.

He said, “Please, I want to commend you for contributing immensely to the development of the state’s economy, but don’t allow yourselves to be used by evil doers. You can see that some kidnappers were paraded recently. Information from them revealed that they have been using some of your members.

“I was once a driver like you. I used the money I got from driving to sponsor myself for HND at Ibadan Polytechnic, but I did not get desperate. All I’m saying is that being a driver you can make it
in life. You will become what you want to become in life with hard work. Don’t join evil gang for you to get rich overnight, try and rise through the ladder like we did.”

Shell to Sack 6,500 Nigerian workers, as it slashes Global Capital Spending

Royal Dutch Shell is cutting 6,500 jobs in Nigeria and at the rest of its global operations and will reduce capital spending by 20 per cent this year, as the oil company takes dramatic action in response to the plunge in oil prices.

The Anglo-Dutch group announced on Thursday its investment this year would decline $7bn from last year’s levels to about $30bn, a bigger drop than forecast just three months ago, as it axed and postponed new projects.

It expected to make further reductions to operating costs in 2016 after a 10 per cent fall this year the Financial Times reports.

The action comes amid savage cost-cutting and industry-wide moves to push back billions of dollars
of spending on new projects, following the collapse in crude prices over the last year. Some $200bn of spending on major oil and gas projects has now been deferred since the crude price began falling, a decline that accelerated when Opec opted not to cut output in the face of soaring US production.

Bad News For Android Users. Another security glitch discovered!

Poor Android is enduring a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week.
Security service Trend Micro on Wednesday reported a device-crashing glitch in the widely used smartphone operating system. This follows another major bug that was revealed by separate researchers Monday.

"We have discovered a vulnerability in Android that can render a phone apparently dead -- silent, unable to make calls, with a lifeless screen," Trend Micro engineer Wish Wu wrote in a blog post.
The bug is apparently able to target Android devices running versions 4.3 through 5.1.1, the current release -- which amounts to more than half of all Android devices on the planet.

That said, you probably don't have to worry so much about this one. In contrast to the "Stagefright"
bug reported Monday, which could gain access to a user's phone from a simple media message, this new vulnerability apparently requires an individual to interact with a malicious app or website.
Also, this latest bug can be fixed just by restarting your device. In other words, it's not incredibly dangerous: If you exercise sound judgment when downloading apps or navigating the web, you'll probably be fine.

No country can succeed alone in the war against terror - Buhari

Press statement from the presidency...

President Buhari has said that Nigeria and neighboring countries must stand together to defeat and degrade Boko Haram terrorists in the sub-region. Speaking late Wednesday at a state dinner at the Unity Palace in Yaounde, during his two-day working visit to Cameroon, President Buhari said countries in the sub-region cannot afford to falter in their resolve to get rid of the evils of terrorists.
``We recognize that none of us can succeed alone. In order to win this war we need the collective efforts of each one of us, standing together as a formidable force for good, to defeat and end these acts of terror against our people,’’ he said. The President told guests at the dinner hosted by President Paul Biya that the security situation in the region presented an opportunity for Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin to work together for their common security, peace and socio-economic development.

`` Let me assure all of my relentless pursuit of all possible means to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity, protect the lives and property of our citizens as well as my commitment to continue to collaborate with Cameroon and our neighbors, within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission. ``The Federal government of Nigeria is committed to respecting international norms to resolve this matter and to restore normalcy to all the affected areas as soon as possible,’’ he said.

Nigeria will abide by ICJ ruling on Bakassi - Buhari

While speaking at an interactive session with Nigerians living in Cameroon during his 2-day working and friendly visit to the country yesterday July 29th, President Buhari said his administration would ensure the faithful implementation of the Green Tree Agreement, which regulates the ceding of Bakassi to Cameroon.

Since Nigeria allowed the case to go to court (ICJ), and we lost, we have to abide by it," he said while responding to a question from a Nigerian on the issue.

The Bakassi Peninsula lies between the Cross River estuary and the Rio del Ray estuary on the east of Cameroon. It was ceded to the Cameroonian government on October 10th 2002 following a judgement by the International Court of Justice.

PDP officials squandered N12bn in 9 months –Workers

Angry workers of the Peoples Democratic Party have accused the members of the National Working Committee of the party of squandering N12bn in nine months.

The workers claim that N11bn was realised from the sale of nomination forms while N1bn was gotten from the sale of delegates forms.

They alleged that the money was squandered shortly after the sale of the forms began on October 27, 2014 till date.

The workers said this in their response to the letter sent to them by the party’s National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, on Wednesday.

Oladipo, in the letter, informed workers about the decision of the NWC to reduce the party’s workforce by 50% and to also cut the salaries of those to be retained by the same percentage.

The national secretary of the party said the decision, among others, would take effect from August.

Chinese woman gets electrocuted while entering PIN code at an ATM

A Chinese woman was in for a real shock last weekend when she tried to get money out of an ATM.
The unsuspecting 23-year-old, known as Xiao Liu, had been entering her PIN code into a cash machine in Xi'an, north west China, when a sudden surge of electricity left her needing hospital treatment.

The electric shock sent 200 volts around the woman's body. Humans can only handle 36 volts safely.

The electricity passed from Liu's hand to her body, leaving her right arm numb and sore.
Liu was forced to the floor by the impact of the shock at the China Everbright Bank.
She soon realised that she was bleeding and that the fingernails on her right thumb and ring finger were broken.
Her card had also been swallowed by the machine.

I’m not expecting ministerial appointment from Buhari- Tunde Bakare

In an interview with Sahara TV yesterday, the General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, said he is not expecting to be appointed a minister in President Buhari's cabinet.

"As far as I am concerned, I am not expecting to be named a minister. If I am offered an appointment, when I get to that bridge I will cross it. I am already a minister of the gospel. Ministry is my calling and my life. The word minister means servant. When you expect nothing, you cannot be disappointed. I keep on doing what I am doing, to be a solid supporter of the Buhari movement and what he stands for in public life. I have no regret on what I did in 2011. If an opportunity presents itself, I will do it again. I am not seeking anything.

“Let’s not count chickens before they are hatched. The bible says the expectation of the righteous will not be cut off. That is when the expectation of the righteous is in tandem with God’s expectation. If you are expecting from God, the flesh can fail. Who knows tomorrow? In the next two months, when the ministers would be named, what if nobody is here or alive? ”

Dame Jonathan deserves her humiliation at Port Harcourt Airport - Rivers APC

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, deserves the humiliation she suffered last week when she was denied access to the Protocol Lounge of the Port Harcourt International Airport, the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said. The party in a statement issued Tuesday in Port Harcourt and signed by the Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, berated the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for splitting hairs over the issue.

The party said: “We read with dismay the unwarranted attack by PDP against the Federal Government over the denial of access to the Protocol Lounge of the Port Harcourt International Airport to the former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. To us in Rivers State, this attack against the Federal Government is unwarranted and not necessary as Dame Patience Jonathan is merely reaping what she sewed while in power. Which Port Harcourt International Airport are we talking about? Is it the airport which Dame Patience Jonathan ensured was abandoned even as other airports whose rehabilitation was started at the same time were completed? Does the present state of the airport, which has become an eyesore, not enough reason not to allow this misguided woman any space in the airport? The sad state of the Port Harcourt Airport is one of the numerous acts perpetrated by the Jonathans to show the level of their hatred and disdain for Rivers State and her people just because Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi happens to govern the State at the time she and her husbands were gods in Nigeria.”

Read: 1 Samuel 30:3-8 (KJV)

3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.

4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.

5 And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.

8 And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

Obasanjo very cunning, Tinubu very clever - Alamieyeseigha

In an interview with Vanguard, former Bayelsa state governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, said former President Olusegun Obasanjo is a cunning man and that former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu was very clever not to have fallen for Obasanjo's actions. Alamieyeseigha said this while responding to a question on whether the recent defections of PDP members to APC will affect the party in the state's governorship election which will hold on December 5th.

"Again, I think our people need to be educated, I can tell you that I was one of them in 2003 that formed Action Congress. At that time, it was becoming clear that President Olusegun Obasanjo, was going to chase most of us out of PDP, so we came together. About 18 of us. We said let us register a party and keep it in case President Obasanjo pushed us out of the party. We can have a platform to actualize our dream.

Also at that time, Obasanjo had cajoled the Southwest governors out of their seats. He deceived them. Bola Tinubu was very clever, he foresaw what Obasanjo was trying to do, so he was the only one that survived because the agreement was that all the Southwest governors should all support him so that he will return them as governors for second term. Obasanjo’s election came first and he deceived them. Obasanjo himself, very cunning, formed Accord Party. When you hear of Accord, it’s Obasanjo’s party"he said

How Buhari Got House Leader Job For Gbajabiamila - Vanguard

ABUJA — SPEAKER Yakubu Dogara of the House of Representatives yesterday succumbed to pressures from his All Progressives Congress, APC, and named Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila House Majority Leader, and by that, drew the curtain on the lingering crisis that has trailed the chamber since its inauguration last June.

Among those who put pressure on the Speaker, it was learnt yesterday, was President Muhammadu Buhari who reportedly put in a phone call to Dogara following a last-minute meeting with party leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, however, denied knowledge of any interaction between the President and the Speaker prior to yesterday’s pronouncement.

Following yesterday’s resolution of the crisis, Speaker Dogara charged the legislators to proceed to discharge the issues that brought them to Abuja, saying that they had wasted enough time on issues of personal aggrandisement.

Prior to the sitting yesterday, tempers had reached feverish pitch upon the resolution of supporters of the Speaker to adopt what they termed as the party’s “position as amended,” which would have led to the exclusion of Gbajabiamila, the party favourite who lost out in the leadership contest to Dogara on June 9.

60 Days: Buhari Yet To Fulfill Any Electoral Promises – PDP.

National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to fulfill any of the campaign promises he made to Nigerians during the just concluded general elections.

He also advised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to repent from further deceiving Nigerians with fake and unfulfilled promises in the days ahead.

Metuh, who was reacting to a statement made by President Buhari shortly after his victory in the March 28 presidential election where he promised to effectively deal with Islamist terror sect, Boko Haram within two months of assumption of office said the APC only made the promises it knows cannot be fulfilled ‘just to get the votes of Nigerians’.

Buhari, in an interview on April 1 had said “we know how they (Boko Haram) started and where they are now and we will rapidly give attention to security in the country. And I believe we will effectively deal with them in two months when we get into office.”

Cameroon tightens security as Buhari visits today

AUTHORITIES in Cameroon have tightened security in Yaounde ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit today.

The President is billed to begin a friendly and working visit to the country for talks with Cameroonian President Paul Biya as part of efforts to defeat the Boko Haram terrorists.

He had visited Niger and Chad shortly after his inauguration on May 29. The Cameroonian trip was shifted following the Muslims’ Ramadan fast and the President’s invitation to the G-7 Summit in Germany.

The Nation reporter, who is in Cameroon, observed increased security patrols in the capital yesterday.

Armed security personnel, who have been drafted to major spots in Yaoundé and other areas towards checking the onslaught of Boko Haram, have increased their surveillance.

Besides, private and public vehicles, including those with diplomatic number plates, were undergoing thorough checking.

Visitors were also being thoroughly screened at the airports.

A minister in GEJ's govt stole $6billion - Gov. Oshiomole alleges

Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomole has alleged that a minister that served in former president Jonathan's administration stole a whooping $6billion. Governor Oshiomole made the allegation while speaking to state house correspondents after a meeting with President Buhari today.

He said American officials made the alleged fraud known to the Buhari led delegation during the state visit to the US last week.

States to repay bailout loans from allocations

It has been revealed that the bailout package being prepared by the Central Bank of Nigeria for the 36 states of the federation is to be deducted from their statutory allocations.

On Monday revealed that some state governors had started visiting the central bank to discuss modalities on how and when the funds would be released.

It was gathered that the CBN would release the package to the states as concessionary loans to be repaid over a longer period of time rather than the funds being given in form of a grant.

The Presidency said the implementation of the three-pronged financial intervention recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari to support the states to pay their workers was now in progress.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande, said this in a statement.

Akande said state governments would start benefiting from the special intervention fund of between N250bn and N300bn in a matter of weeks.

Lagos state government alerts residents on new tactics by robbers

The Lagos State Government yesterday alerted residents of the state on new tactics armed robbers have devised to rob. The statement added that the robbers usually target unsuspecting victims either in a lonely commuter bus, taxi or a quiet corner.

The statement listed the Igando axis in Alimosho LGA as one of the areas where this is common
“It is not yet known how harmful the drug being used on the handkerchief is. While that is being checked out, it may be necessary to alert members of the public on this new dimension”, the statement said.

Buhari Article On Obama's Cabinet(2): PMB Was Absolutely Wrong

Goodmorning All, I woke up this morning to read this thread "Buhari's Article: Buhari Was Right On Obama's Cabinet". It was meant to counter the points raised on my thread where I exposed the lies of Buhari where he alleged that Obama appointed some Cabinet members some months into his administration in his first term http://www.nairaland.com/2465799/buharis-article-misinformation-facts-records. Permit me to quote the words of Muhammadu Buhari, because it will help in my argument.

"When cabinet ministers are appointed in September, it will be some months after I took the oath of office. It is worth noting that Obama himself did not have his full Cabinet in place for several months after first taking office; the United States did not cease to function in the interim." --- (Pres. Muhammadu Buhari)"

Pls note the emboldened. I will hereafter analyse each and everyone that the OP of that thread brought up to serve his argument.

There is nobody who will be above the law in Nigeria - Osinbajo

VP Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, said on Wednesday the Muhammadu Buhari administration would not spare anyone who went against the law as it would propagate the rule of law in all its programmes.

He said this when officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers paid him a visit at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. Osinbajo said;

"There is nobody who will be above the law in Nigeria, no matter who you are. You cannot use party. You cannot use the association; you cannot use position in government. Nobody is above the law. That is the first move and I want us to support that. Let us not say that if a person, who is one of our own, is being held to account for his wrong-doing, so long as the person is being held to account according to law, we must not support such a person. We must say ‘let the law take its course’. That is how good societies are run, there is no other way. If we see fairness, let us describe it as fairness; let us support what is right and good for our country. And our country is going to call upon us time and time again. We are the elite of this country. There is no other elite. You can’t look anywhere else for elite."
