'I’m not a thief, I have a lot to tell Nigerians' - Dasuki says, denies awarding fictitious contracts

Former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki has denied allegations that he awarded fictitious arms procurement contract to the tune of N300 billion while he was in office. In a statement he released this evening, Dasuki said he was not NSA as at when the fictitious contracts were said to have been awarded. His statement in part below

"In a theatrical manner, the Presidency fed the public with many allegations against my person and yet-to-be-named former public officers.

To draw sympathy, the presidency quoted some absurd findings including extra-budgetary interventions; award of fictitious contracts; 53 failed contracts; payment for jobs without contractual agreements; non-execution of contracts for the purchase of 4 Alpha jets, bombs and ammunition. For undiscerning Nigerians, they may tend to assume that the allegations were true and pronounce the former National Security Adviser guilty as charged.

Boko Haram ranked ahead of ISIS for deadliest terror group

As much of the world remains focused on the Islamic State and its horrific attacks in Paris, another radical band of extremists has, by one account, captured the infamous title of the world’s deadliest terrorist group: Boko Haram.

Boko Haram, the militant group that has tortured Nigeria and its neighbors for years, was responsible for 6,664 deaths last year, more than any other terrorist group in the world, including the Islamic State, which killed 6,073 people in 2014, according to a report released Wednesday tracking terrorist attacks globally.

The death toll in Nigeria mounted on Wednesday, with a bombing in Kano State in northern Nigeria, not even a full day after Boko Haram was suspected in an explosion that killed and injured dozens in another nearby region.

In Kano, the authorities said that two female suicide bombers detonated vests at a cellphone market at about 4 p.m., killing at least 12 people and wounding dozens. Witnesses and Red Cross officials said that as many as 50 or 60 people died, though the number could not be independently confirmed. Officials accused Boko Haram in the attacks.

Lagos female sergeant sells baby brought to police station

Fuel scarcity: Kachiukwu orders DPR to sell off fuel of erring fuel stations for free to Nigerians

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachiukwu yesterday ordered the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, to sell off for free, the petroleum products of any fuel station that is caught hoarding petrol during this period of fuel scarcity. He gave the order after a working visit to some retail outlets in Abuja.

“I have instructed DPR that if they discover any fuel station involved in hoarding, they should sell the products for free to customers around there. It is not just sealing the station that is the answer. It is penalizing them when they do these things and I hope the message goes out loud and clear,” he said

Niger Delta is not breaking away from Nigeria

Annkio Briggs a Niger Delta rights activist has said the region is not agitating to break away from Nigeria but is only interested in being allowed to control its resources.

Some Igbo people have been agitating for an independent Biafra state and different protests have been going on in some parts of the country especially in the eastern part. The agitation heightened after the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu who is the director of Radio Biafra.

Daily Trust reports that Briggs said the federal government should not see the agitation of the people of Niger Delta as a move to break away from Nigeria as agitated by Biafrans but rather as a quest for self-determination and the opportunity to control the wealth from the region.

What Went Wrong Between MTN and Nigeria?

The cliché “To whom much is given, much is expected” seem to be true for telecommunications giant, MTN, especially as it pertains to its operations in Nigeria.

MTN launched its Global System of Mobile Communications (GSM), service on August 8, 2001 connecting 100,000 lines (24 hours after another licensee, Econet Wireless began) and from the get go; it benefited a lot from being a pioneer.

Not only was a sim card sold for as much as N30,000 (today it is virtually free), MTN got loads of tax reliefs and concessions, because the then Obasanjo government wanted to make sure that its plan to democratize telephony had no hitches.

That early lead helped MTN grow in leaps and bounds, and today, it is the largest network in terms of subscriber base in Nigeria. In addition, MTN Nigeria contributes a huge chunk of the profit declared yearly by the MTN Group.

Sanusi tells Diezani: You are a liar

The former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN governor and Emir of Kano, Mohammed Lamido Sanusi has said the embattled former petroleum resources minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke is “lying” over claim that he (Sanusi) came to lobby her for help over his interest in African Development Bank, AfDB presidency but came up with $20bn missing oil fund allegation because he lost out in getting the job.

Sanusi, speaking with Sunday Telegraph, said Diezani, battling breast cancer, was being economical with the truth in her interview with thebossnewspaper.com on his interest and how he lost the opportunity to head the continental financial institution.

What you are about to read is probably the most anticipated story of the year birthed in the long awaited authoritative investigative newspaper of the future. This pregnant saga fell into labour last week in the pre-natal wing of Pendulum ward of Thisday clinic and it has now given birth to a big bouncing baby christened The Boss.

This is an apt metaphor for the melodramatic scoop which is the cover of the first edition of what I believe will be a catalyst for unbiased investigative reporting in Nigeria. The Boss had long been conceptualised as a Leadership newspaper to occupy the void created by lack of true and credible investigative journalism in some traditional and online media. The original plan was to launch in December or early January. But the Diezani-Alison Madueke story changed all that. It was too compelling to restrict to the Pendulum column alone.  And here we are with what promises to be an exciting addition to the media landscape in Nigeria and beyond featuring an enthralling cover story that will run and run.

S’Court hears Saraki’s application to halt CCT trial today

The Supreme Court will on Thursday (today) hear an application by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, for stay of proceedings of his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on 13 counts of false assets declaration.

It was learnt on Wednesday that the Federal Government, through its counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), had on Tuesday opposed the application for stay of proceedings, citing among other grounds, Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, which prohibits courts from entertaining such application.

Saraki, who filed his application through his lead counsel, Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), on November 3, 2015, wants the Supreme Court to halt his trial before the CCT pending the hearing and determination of his appeal before the apex court.

The Senate President had appealed to the Supreme Court against the October 30, 2015 judgment of the Court of Appeal which affirmed the competence of the charges instituted against him and the jurisdiction of the CCT to try him.

The Lagos State Government has criticised London-based weekly newspaper, The Economist, over a scathing report it published about Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

The newspaper had said in its report titled, ‘Why Nigeria’s largest city is even less navigable than usual’, that Ambode had failed to consolidate on the gains of his predecessor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.

It added that Ambode was full of excuses but little solutions to the traffic congestion and robberies in the state. It also said Ambode’s ‘lenient’ method of traffic enforcement had engendered impunity on the roads

However, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, said in a statement that the people of Lagos deserved to be treated with respect rather than being harassed by overzealous law enforcement agents.

IS YOUR LOVE FOR GOD PROVEN?

Memorise: He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. - 1 John 4: 8

Read: 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)

7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Bible in One Year: Deuteronomy 19:1-21:14; Philippians 2
